Q&A with Dr. Mitchell: Blog 4

Q.  Am I a candidate for LASIK, and is it a good idea?

A. LASIK can be a wonderful vision solution for many people. However, it is often misunderstood and it is not right for everyone. In order to know if you are a candidate, your optometrist will need to perform a variety of tests and measure the thickness of your cornea. LASIK is performed with a laser that reshapes your cornea to correct the refractive error in each individual. So, the thickness of your cornea and your current prescription will need to be within a reasonable range. Also, most people do not realize that LASIK corrects distance vision only. If you are over the age of 40 and have begun to need reading glasses, you will still need them after LASIK surgery.
